|I like to paint or sculpt whatever I feel on any given day and to have many works in progress to give myself that liberty. Influences run from Paleolithic to recent. The great Renaissance masters such as Bellini and Giorgione are mesmerizing. The richness of Titian is no less enticing than the painterliness of De Kooning. |
|Picasso was undoubtedly the genius of the 20th century and the 21st we have yet to see. Above all I am touched by the aesthetic, the beauty of things man-made or in nature. Beauty can be found in things as different as a thermal nuclear device or Cellini's salt cellar. As Dan Quayle said; "The human mind is a terrible thing." I couldn't agree more. As one grows older, one tends to hide in one's work. I'm trying to break out again and lord knows what success could wreak. I'll take that chance! Timothy Brice Johnson. |
